Global technology leader Laird (LRD: London) met with the UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment today, The Right Honourable Lord Francis Maude of Horsham, during his visit to Shenzhen, China.
The Minister met with Laird leadership there discussing operations and growth plans across various industries including mobile devices, telecoms, and computer/ gaming. The Minister’s goal is to further the UK Government’s support to the growth of UK businesses operating globally.
“UK based technology companies are central to the innovation and growth we are seeing in the global technology industry,” Lord Maude said during his visit. He added that, “I am encouraged to see UK Trade and Investment supporting companies like Laird which continues to expand its sales, capabilities and workforce in China.”
Laird’s Vice President of Global Operations, Mike Murray, hosted the Minister and also discussed the company’s recent expansion and growth opportunities in Brazil, where the Minister will be visiting in November.
“Hosting Lord Maude is a true honor for us at Laird,” explains Murray. He adds that, “Innovation, reliable fulfilment and speed to market are all core to the success of Laird. With key insights and help from the Minister as well as the British and Chinese Governments, we will continue our expansion both in China and around the world.”
The Shenzhen plant is the largest of Laird’s 8 facilities in China and exemplifies the capabilities of Laird’s Chinese operations. The company’s facility in Shenzhen opened in 2000 and employs around 2,000 people. Across Asia, Laird employs more than 7,000 people in 16 different sites including China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Malaysia. Laird’s global operations also include the design and manufacture of wireless and antenna solutions which enable connectivity for electronics and smart systems.
