Free space applications involve propagating waves where the volume is large relative to wavelength of energy. The purpose of absorber material is to reduce reflections from conductive/reflective  surfaces. Such surfaces are found in various applications for indoor equipment as well as outdoor devices. Absorber material is used massively in signal-sensitive communication applications such as radar, antenna mast, and satellite communication as well as military/ aerospace applications creating camouflage.

Laird offers both narrow and broadband grades made from robust silicone elastomer material which is heavily tested to ensure it withstands harsh environments.
